USADF began programming in Tanzania in 1986

Focus:  Improving export-oriented enterprise development with an emphasis on agricultural and agro-processing activities. USADF grants focus on a variety of crops such as specialty coffee, tea, sugarcane, vanilla, organic cotton, horticultural products, paprika, beef and animal feed products.

Underserved: USADF grants target hard to reach groups such as unemployed youth in Dar es Salaam and community based organizations on the remote island of Pemba.

Food Security:  USADF grants in Tanzania establish sustainable businesses and market links with local, regional, international buyers and investors, and promote regional and international trade for local producers.

Power Africa Off-Grid Energy Challenge : Many Tanzanian communities in rural and marginalized areas lack access to power for their businesses, homes and daily activities.  To tackle this problem, USADF, USAID and GE Africa have launched the Power Africa Off-Grid Energy Challenge.  The Challenge awards grants of up to $100,000 to African companies and organizations providing off-grid solutions in Tanzania that deploy renewable resources and power local economic activities.  As part of the U.S. Government’s Power Africa initiative, we welcome your innovative solutions to develop, scale-up and extend the use of proven technologies for off-grid energy – reaching communities not served by the existing power grids.
