USADF's Senegal Program
USADF's country program provides Senegalese enterprises and community groups with direct access to financial and technical assistance to assist them in generating employment and increased incomes for economically marginalized communities and groups.
USADF's country program focuses on marginalized populations including:
The Sahel Initiative, that encompasses the northern third of Senegal, stretching from the northern border with Mauritania for a hundred miles south, and includes towns such as Thies, Saint Louis, Matam and Bakel.
The populations living in Casamance and Tombacounda regions are the poorest in Senegal according to the national Poverty Reduction Strategy, and live far from the capital city. The Casamance is home to the Christian minority. This area is also politically marginalized due to separatist history. Though the region was quiet for a few years, there has been a recent increase in instability.
