USADF began programming in Mali in 1984

Focus: Boosting agricultural production to improve local food security, agricultural value chain development and income generation.

Underserved: Timbuktu and eastern Mali are a priority focus for USADF due to the area’s physical access and economic challenges.

Food Security: Mali, one of the five least developed countries in the world, is classified as a food deficit country where over 80 percent of the population depends on agriculture for survival. USADF promotes food security initiatives to improve crop yields, incomes and food security in Mali.

Conflict/Post Conflict: Even with recent destabilization and conflict in Mali, USADF’s grants continue to promote food security and agricultural value chain development to help alleviate some of the food insecurity and economic burdens on the population.
