USADF's Liberia Program

The most marginalized population in Liberia is women.  As a result of their low level of education and capacity, women constitute the largest number of farmers in all parts of the country.  Due to the low capacity of rural women, it is more expensive and requires greater effort to reach them to improve their financial status.  Consequently, most groups/donors prefer to assist groups or individuals with some intermediate level of capacity to save time and get impact quickly.  This leaves the women’s needs unattended to by most development partners.

ADF’s programming activities for FY2011 will focus on reaching women for capacity building increased income generation to improve their standards of living.  These will include both urban and rural initiatives to improve food security through agriculture and small business activities.  Particular efforts will be made to expand programming into southeastern Liberia, including the coastal communities in that area.  Coastal communities, especially those in southeastern Liberia constitute another population that at present is largely untouched by development efforts in the country.
