Rodney J. MacAlister, President and CEO of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF), recently announced the appointment of Cynthia Phillips to the position of Director, Legislative and Public Affairs. "Cynthia is eminently suited to this position, having worked with a number of leading institutions in Washington that support development efforts in Africa", commented Mr. MacAlister. "Cynthia not only brings to a wealth of experience and skills to USADF, she also brings a passion for Africa that I am confident will further our mission to alleviate poverty in sub-Saharan Africa."

Immediately prior to joining USADF, Ms. Phillips worked at the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), where she held the position of Vice President of Operations.  Ms. Phillips was responsible for managing CCA's participation in the 2006 AGOA Private Sector Forum, as well relationships with the foreign diplomatic corps and other stakeholders.

In the past Ms. Phillips has worked with DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa) where, as the Associate Director for Government Relations, she managed and directed DATA’s public policy agenda on U.S. foreign policy matters related to trade and development assistance. She also served as Associate Director in the Office of Government Liaison and Immigration Policy of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, where she managed and directed the public policy agenda on legislative matters relating to U.S. foreign policy, telecommunications and domestic policy.  She has also served as a policy advisor in the U.S. Senate and as a legislative assistant to Senator Paul Wellstone.

Ms. Phillips expressed her pleasure at joining USADF.  “USADF focuses on a small but extremely important sector of the African economy: small and medium-sizes enterprises, which are one of the main driving forces behind economic growth.  I look forward to making as many people as possible aware of the significant impact that USADF has on development and growth in Africa.”
