Foundation will host workshops on Financing for Small and Medium-sized Businesses and Investments in Agriculture in Liberia.
WASHINGTON - January 24, 2007
The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) will host two workshops at an upcoming conference to discuss Liberia Private Sector Investment. The conference, which is being organized by the Corporate Council on Africa, will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC on February 15, 2007.
The one-day Liberia Private Sector Investment Forum will showcase trade and investment opportunities in vital sectors such as agriculture, mining and natural resources, power generation and electricity, construction and infrastructure development, transportation, and tourism and hospitality. In addition to a series of sector-specific workshops, the forum will highlight outcomes of the two-day government-only Liberia Donor Conference deliberations which precede the private sector forum. Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will be the keynote speaker at the forum’s luncheon.
USADF was one of the first US government agencies to establish operations in Liberia following the election of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Earlier this year the Foundation invested US$760,000 in eight Liberian-owned businesses representing a diverse range of sectors, including agriculture, horticulture, business support services, construction, woodworking, and fishing. USADF will conduct a further round of funding between now and the end of September 2007. It is anticipated that total investments by ADF in Liberia will reach US$2million annually in subsequent years.
At the Forum, USADF will host two workshops, on Financing for Liberian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and on Agricultural Investments in Liberia. USADF representatives James Addo and Brent Habiq will discuss how investments by the Foundation are helping to create employment, improve incomes and stimulate economic growth. They will also highlight the challenges of working in fragile states like Liberia, and the investment opportunities for private sector companies.
The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) is a United States Government agency dedicated to expanding access to economic opportunity in Africa.
